Young Men's Division Engaged in Tree-Planting Activity in Nueva Viscaya
Last June 28, 49 members of SGI Philippines Young Men's Division have gathered
and gone up north to Sta. Fe, Nueva Vizcaya
for it's second year running of the Young Men's Division
Tree Planting Activity. The activity was headed by no less than our own
Headquarter leaders: Youth Division Chief Ronald Hernandez, YMD Chief Jeremias
Zhel Cruz and YMD Vice-Chief Rodel Paul Sauza.
The group arrived early in the morning at the site in order to avoid the
truly unbearable work under the heat of the sun. On the way up, one could
clearly notice the development of the place (as compared to last year)
especially the route in going up to reach the planting grounds for however
steep they were, the steps were cemented for the easy footing of the participants.
The wonderful scenery was very picturesque indeed - one that can't likely
be forgotten by anyone. Unfortunately however, it could not be said to
be a true planting ground, for it would still need a lot of work.
With a goal of planting 5,000 seedlings and strictly being reminded that
the seedlings are also the manifestations of the one ultimate reality,
everyone have their hearts set and was determined to achieve the said target.
Joined by 30 to 40 students of Sta. Fe National High School including their
teacher, the task went on smoothly. Shortly thereafter, everyone was quite
surprised when it was announced that the goal was exceeded and that in
actuality, 7,000 seedlings have been planted.
The next agenda for the activity was the ceremonial tree planting in commemoration to our dearly departed General Director Yasuaki Niitsu. The spot recommended to honor him was simply perfect. After a few short speeches, everyone started to chant daimoku while others started planting the young saplings, making it a truly solemn ceremony. Even though it has already been a year since his passing, his persona is still strongly felt and not a few members surely miss him.
Last on the agenda was the video presentation of an episode from Ikeda-Sensei's
Happy Tales series to the local folks of Sta. Fe, Nueva Vizcaya, titled
"Ang Prinsipe at ang Coral sa Dagat" (The Prince and the Sea
of Corals) which truly had an endearing effect to all the viewer's hearts
telling one and all to work in saving our precious Mother Earth for it
is undeniably a priceless treasure to leave behind to the next generations.
With that, the day's activities have come to a close. The activity may
have been strenuous and exhausting, but both the young men's division leaders
and members alike went home thankful and fulfilled with their humble contribution
to society and nature. Other than that, it was also a worthwhile treat
to have encountered and experience the warm hospitality of the Vizcayanos.
As such, the activity was a total success with the pledge of the participants
of continuing this noble activity yet another time next year.
